The Customer Insights and Measurement team at State Farm is seeking an Ethnographer/Design Researcher who will be responsible for designing research to uncover attitudes and needs related to insurance and financial services and providing consultation on research related issues.
We are looking for someone with experience designing and implementing contextual research (and other qualitative research) in order to understand the relationship between human beings and the products and services companies provide. Our cross-functional research environment is incredibly collaborative and fast-paced, so exceptional communication and collaborative skills are required. Experience conducting or assisting with quantitative research and secondary research is desired, but not required.
The skills required for this position are typically associated with an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Sociology, Anthropology, Ethnography, Design Research, Psychology or Marketing. Ideal candidates should have:
*3 or more years of ethnographic research experience in understanding the relationship between human beings and the products and services companies provide
*Strong consultation skills, including the ability to identify research needs and to design a research plan that speaks to those needs
*Proficiency in creating research proposals based on clients' research needs
*Experience conducting research in a laboratory setting, online, and/or in the field
*Proven experience as part of a team conducting ethnographic and/or qualitative research
*Extensive experience in moderating interviews, participant observation, and other qualitative research methods
*Previous research project management experience with a clear understanding of project set-up, recruiting, coordinating, and research design
*Strong written and verbal communication skills
Key Job Responsibilities
*Meet with clients to identify research questions, design and conduct research, and communicate results to interdisciplinary project teams
*When necessary, conduct thorough and in-depth secondary research with internal and external resources
*Collaborate with cross-functional research team to design and conduct research; drive and/or assist with approach and analysis
*Methods utilized include, but are not limited to: ethnography/observation, individual interviews, focus groups, contextual inquiry, user/task analysis, surveys, etc.
*Job will include some travel (less than 20% of the time)
